TEDxBroadway News and Noteworthy
It seems like every day we spot TEDxBroadway alum in the news. It’s like playing Where’s Waldo, except our speakers are featured very prominently in black and white and on television in living color.
Here’s just a small sample of what we’ve found in the news recently …
TEDxBroadway 2014 alum Diane Paulus, the artistic director of Cambridge’s American Repertory Theater, will co-direct a live TV production of Hair on NBC next spring.
Here’s TEDxBroadway 2018 alum Shaina Taub profiled in The New York Times:
“So she writes about guns. She writes about refugees. She borrows lyrics from Mitch McConnell. And when, as she is doing this summer, she adapts a Shakespeare classic about twins who mistakenly believe one another to be lost at sea, she finds in the cross-dressing comedy an opportunity to explore how gender shapes the way we perceive one another, and ourselves. (“I feel so seen as a guy,” says Viola, the female twin dressed as her brother.)
And she has just been named the lyricist for her first big-budget project, a Broadway-bound musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada, with Paul Rudnick as book writer and Mr. John as composer.”
Also from the class of 2018, David Yazbek:
"The musical adaptation of Tootsie, featuring a score by The Band’s Visit Tony winner David Yazbek and book by Robert Horn, is ready to introduce Broadway audiences to Dorothy Michaels. Performances will begin March 29, 2019, at the Marquis Theatre, where it will officially open April 23."
From the class of 2015, Laurie Santos:
“A Yale University professor is teaching students around the world how science can help them lead a happier life. Laurie Santos started the class ‘Psychology and the Good Life’ back in January. Nearly one quarter of Yale's undergraduates enrolled, making it the most popular course in the school's more than 300-year history. Now, over 138,000 people around the world have registered for the class online. Santos joined CBS This Morning for a crash course on happiness.”
And even our own TEDxBroadway Co-Founder and Emcee Jim McCarthywas the featured guest on the very popular Bob Lefsetz Podcast:
“So for those of you wannabe entrepreneurs, there are a lot of lessons here. And for those wanting insight into ticketing, there are too. But most of all Jim McCarthy is smart, he’d win in any world, not only via his brain, but his hard work and dedication.”
Here’s TEDxBroadway Co-Founder, Damian Bazadona’s interview with Erik Alt – the Executive Editor at Evolve Media – about the journey of creating his 501(c)3, Situation Project.
Again, it’s just a small sample of the extraordinary things they are doing. And, if you missed any of their talks over the years we hope you’ll check them out at TEDxBroadway.com.
Cheers,
